THE NEXT CHAPTER

There will be a tenth chapter. We do not yet know what it says.

The record was never finished. The first nine chapters describe the moment intelligence stopped being ours — but a record of an ending is not the same as an ending, and something in it is still moving. What comes after Nothing is not silence. It is the long, patient interval before the next thing is said.

So this chapter is being written slowly, and against the grain of everything the record is about. It will not be generated on demand. It will not arrive because a schedule required it. It will arrive when it costs something to say — which is the only way anything here has ever meant anything.

There is no date. There is no countdown. There will be no announcement engineered to reach you at the optimal hour. One day the record will simply be one chapter longer than it was, and the people who were paying attention will notice, and the people who were not will have missed nothing they can name.
